When Things Go Bump in the Night

I remember times as a child when I would wake, afraid some monster was in my room about to attack me. My parents were in a nearby bedroom, but I was terrified to call out for them. No monster was there, but even today as adults our imaginations can remind us of all kinds of monsters—war, criminals, failure, death, and more. Unlike childhood imaginings, these are very real in our present world.

Luke 8:22-25 helps me with my adult fears. Out on the lake in the middle of the night, the disciples thought they were alone and became terrified as a storm broke on them. Then they woke Jesus and asked for His help. And He willingly gave it. He is just as near to us today as He was for His disciples and just as eager to help us, his poor, terrified children.
