Luke 14:1-14:

We are called to look for a different kind of payment for our work than what the world looks for. Jesus ministered to the sick, the poor, women, lepers, others who ranked low in the social order. Even to the rich when they realized how poor they were in spiritual wealth.  We are called to do likewise: to base our lives on those we can serve, not on riches or praise or worldly honors.

We serve as we are called to serve, to give money or time or other talents to the poor and the children and the needy: the idea is to bring us all to a better place, not seeing how many trophies we can win for ourselves.

Jesus set the example.
