A Sense of Mission

first edition

What is the tug at the back of her mind that Kaitlin Sadler can’t quite remember after her childhood tragedy?

Something too important to forget, yet so heartbreaking that she only glimpses it in dreams.

True, life in sleepy Madrona Harbor on a Puget Sound island took some adjustment for a small child raised by American diplomats in the Middle East.
Nevertheless, Matilda, her guardian, loves her like a daughter, and Matilda’s own globe trotting nephew and his parents become her friends.
The nephew, Ethan Coverwood, several years older than Kaitlin is already planning a diplomatic career like his father. Kaitlin wants to follow her own father and have the career he was never able to finish.
Ethan plays the role of big brother as Kaitlin works through tragedy’s aftermath, then through adolescent crushes and college decisions.
When Ethan suffers his own tragedy, Kaitlin guides him through it, and he realizes she is now an adult. Their friendship deepens while Kaitlin begins her own diplomatic career.
Through challenging assignments in the Middle East during a chaotic time, they grope toward a different kind of relationship.
Then another terrorist incident strikes, and that tug in the back of Kaitlin’s mind becomes real.
